UPC Administrative Committee Takes Major Next Steps

In Luxembourg on Friday 8 July, the Administrative Committee (AC) of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) held their second meeting. During this meeting, which was also attended by Oxon IP Director Leythem Wall, President of EPLIT, the UPC Rules of Procedure and Fees, among other items were approved.

Additionally, local divisions in Austria (Vienna), Belgium (Brussels), Demark (Copenhagen), Finland (Helsinki), France (Paris), Germany (Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Mannheim, Munich), Italy (Milan), the Netherlands (The Hague), Slovenia (Ljubljana) and Portugal (Lisbon) were confirmed, as well as the regional Nordic-Baltic division to be mainly located in Sweden (Stockholm).

The current projected start for the UPC is “early 2023”.

Finally, Leythem was also quoted in World Intellectual Property Review (WIPR) discussing the recruitment of UPC judges, which was also covered in the UPC AC meeting.
